The Yorùbá people Ọmọ Káàárọ̀-oòjíire, one of the three largest ethnic groups of Nigeria, in West Africa.
This music is a common traditional folk song among the Yorùbá people and has been around for centuries. It is a Yorùbá belief that there exists a creator called Olódùmarè (the Creator of Existence), also sometimes called Olórun (the Owner of the Heavens).
The Yorùbá people celebrate thanksgiving festivals in appreciation of the creator, and one such festival is Ọdún Ọlọ́jọ́ (Festival of the Existence of the Day).
This song is sung in appreciation of the creator, at the end of the year and also in celebration of victories in battle and the conquering of problems, believing it’s not by their power or wits but by the grace of their creator, Ọlọ́run.
The lyrics
Ọpẹ́ ló ye ọ́, Bàbá olóore
