Music Description
Omijé Ìpínyà is composed and dedicated in memory of my late older sister, Olubunmi Deborah Adegoke who died in 2010
The memory of my sister remained with me for a very long time, and even now I am constantly reminded of her death.
“I watched my sister die and I couldn’t do anything about it,What made my sister’s demise even more tragic was that it occurred on my mother’s birthday – April 15th.
Right in front of my very eyes, I saw her chest moved and gasp so fast up just as if it were to go to the sky. Battling with breadth, she could no longer grasp my hands and she let lose of my fingers. The unconsciousness that leads to death is unspeakable and agony is its string.
I know you have left and are untouchable again, I am sure you’ll be in a wonderful land with many beautiful things. I just want to hope we will meet again in the afterlife and my face becomes familiar again.
Olubunmi was a dear sister I was closest to. Even as of now, I still see her in my dreams, If I ever have a daughter, I will name her after Olubunmi.”
OMIJE IPINYA is a piece that is full of sadness and yet is life-affirming. You can hear the conversation between me and my sister in the quieter parts, and her passage to eternity at the end.
