Music Description
I grew up in the market and I spent most of my teenage age in Akíndẹ́kọ́ market in Òṣogbo, Osun State Nigeria, where my mother sells. Some of my compositions are about the market.
These new works depict a nostalgic feeling of myself and my mom when selling in the market.
During the market days, sometimes we make a profit and sometimes we lose. Sometimes we have to give out our goods at discount prices and sometimes we come home empty-handed.
We make friends and we sometimes have to smile at competitors who made us go hungry all through the day without selling.
The market is a wonderful place of education, a place to learn beyond what the school can teach us. You learn from the old and the young, the smart and the cunning.
I remember my mother taught me how to listen carefully and learn from hearing a range of perspectives, and never to overlook whatever gossip old women might be conversing.
We both learn how to work hard, put up a smile and stand out in a crowded marketplace, a kind of attitude not easy but sells better. To sell to a customer, happiness must come from within. We both learnt that cost and risk are meant to be socialized while profit is meant to be private. All of these are what makes life beautiful.
Truly life is a market place, we all are here to sell.
In the market, we are to Live , learn, love, and when it’s time, we all will leave the world. No one stays in the market forever, for there is never forever in the market.
