It was a voice from the past that inspired me to write this piece – a text message from a former lover.

At a time when I felt I needed her the most, she neglected me and instead, left me for another Man.

I suffered loneliness and heartbreak as I felt deeply hurt and missed her tremendously.

I had loved her dearly, but in time, I finally came to terms with her absence and grew to live without her.

Then, after years gone by she sent me a message telling me that she wanted to come back into my life.

When I saw her message, tears rolled down my cheeks and my heart ached as memories of the lost love came flooding back.

However, I knew that she would be settling for less on her part if she returned to me.

Besides, I had to ask myself if I wanted to go back to my past, to my yesterday. She was my yesterday, whereas I was in my present, looking ahead of me. I could not go back to a past I had long left behind.

This piece is an expression of my heart for all the feelings that it had to go through – intense love, loss, sorrow and resolution.

It is written in the traditional triplet rhythm style of Yorùbá

Songs.
