Ijaw people are people of Niger Delta in Nigeria, inhabiting South-south regions of the states of Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Rivers and Ondo.

Main Occupation
The main occupation of the Ijaws is fishing supplemented by farming, owning to the affinity they have with water, a A good number of them are found as migrant fishermen in camps as far as west Sierra Leon and as Far East as Garbon. Being a Maritime people, many Ijaws were employed in the merchant shipping sector in the early and mid-20th century(Pre-Nigerian independence)
With a population of over fourteen million, the Ijaws are one of the largest Ethnic groups in Nigeria.

Music
There are different genres of traditional music of the Ijaws and its Musicians. Some music types of the Ijaws are distinct with a style of two-chord progressions which generally depicts the paddling of canoes sideways. It is distinct from the Third Minor chord (iv-minor) and the Fourth Major (IV-Major) chord of a Major Diatonic Scale.
The dance of the Ijaw fishermen is arranged in the style of music of the Ijaw tribe to express the paddling of Canoes by the Fishermen, left and right (sideways) with two chords progressions.
